Zion National Park: Kolob Canyon, Timber Creek Overlook Trail

Congratulations, Jason and Sheryl! We had an excellent trip to Las Vegas to celebrate!

On our way back from Las Vegas we decided to briefly explore the northern region of Zion National Park. It is accessible immediately off of I-15 and does not appear to draw the crowds that the main entrance does. We followed a beautiful, twisting road into the canyon from the visitors center. Steep cliffs carved of red rocks dominate our view as we drove to the Timber Creek Overlook Trail head at the end of the road. We wanted to give Sprout some walking time and were pleased to find the Timber Creek Overlook Trail highly accessible and well maintained. The trail is a 0.5 mile out-and-back (1 mile round trip), with 100 feet of elevation gain – most of which is at the end of the trail, were there is a view of the Canyons and the terrain to the South. Sprout was able to do all but the steepest parts herself, giving her some much-needed energy release. This is certainly a hike with great returns.
