Two weekends ago we were (nearly) quarantined in our apartment due to the blanket of smoke covering Logan as a result of the wildfires in Washington State and Idaho. Every time we went in the car, Sprout made bear sounds as if she was looking for bears (which is her job when we go hiking). We could tell she really wanted to go out for a hike – we all did! We all felt a bit of cabin fever. So we were excited to finally get out for a nice hike this weekend.
The weather was warm so we picked a section of the Great Western Trail that went through a canyon in hopes that we would have some shade. The trail was varied with some open meadows with tall grasses, small aspen groves, and regions that were more forested (and brought some lovely shade). As we stopped for lunch we were passed by a family on some horses. Sprout was thrilled and pet the horses nose. It was her first up close encounter with a horse.
